Day to Day Itinerary of Everest Base Camp Trek

Day 01: Kathmandu to Lukla (40 min flight) and trek to Phakding (2652m) 3-4 hrs

Beginning the trek to Everest Base Camp Trek, catch the domestic flight to Lukla from Tribhuvan International Airport. The 40 minute scenic flight offers the mesmerizing natural views including the lofty Himalayas. Upon landing at Lukla carry out the trek towards the Phakding. At evening stroll around the village.

Day 02: Phakding to Namche Bazaar(3400m) 5-6 hrs

The trail today crosses the suspension bridge on the Dudh Koshi River and heads towards Namche Bazaar. The route goes through the Sagarmatha National Park, where one could witness the varieties of flora and fauna. Now the trail descends towards the Jorsalle Village crossing through the suspension bridge over Bhote Koshi River. And finally there comes Namche Bazaar, popularly known as the gateway to Mt. Everest.

Day 03: Acclimatization at Namche Bazaar, hike to Everest View Hotel (3900m) (3-4)hrs 

Acclimatization is a must while trekking out in the  higher altitude region. So it is recommended to spend a day in Namche Bazaar in order to adapt to the altitude and the environment. One might also carry out the short hike towards Everest View Hotel, to witness the panoramic view of Everest Region.

Day 04: Namche Bazaar to Tengboche (3860m) 5-6 hrs

Enjoy the journey towards the Everest Base Camp Trek, the trail today goes towards the Tengboche passing through the forests. The route offers magnificent views of mountains including Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku and Kwangde peak. Upon reaching Tengboche, pay a visit to one of the most famous monasteries of the region, Tengboche Monastery. The renowned monastery is situated in a beautiful location that propounds the spectacular scenery.

Day 05: Tengboche to Dingboche (4410m) 5-6 hrs

The trail goes towards the Dingboche leaving behind the Tengboche. Dingboche is also popularly known as the Summer Valley. The trail descends through the rhododendron forest and reaches the Pangboche Village. Then after a few hours of hike, there arrives a small Dingboche village in the Chukung Valley.

Day 06: Acclimatization at Dingboche and hike to Chhukung Valley (4410m) 4-5 hrs

Enjoying the trail of Everest Base Camp Trek, separate a day in Dingboche for better acclimatization. One may also opt to hike towards the Chhukung Valley that offers spectacular views of lofty mountains including Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, Cholatse and Taboche. Also from another location on the ridge one can witness Imja Khola Valley and the beautiful Dingboche village. 

Day 07: Dingboche to Lobuche (4910m) 5-6 hrs

Climbing through Duglha via Khumbu Khola Valley, the trail today proceed towards Lobuche. Descending via Duglha village, one finally reaches Lobuche before sunset. 

Day 08: Lobuche to Gorak Shep & hike to Everest Base Camp (5,320m) 5-6 hrs

Today’s trail takes you to the phenomenal Everest Base Camp. The trail consists of some steep ascends towards the Base Camp. Though the trail also offers the natural splendour of Khumbu Glacier and ice fall from Base Camp site. Trail also passes over rocky dunes, moraine and streams to make the way towards the Everest Base Camp. Spend some quality time at the amazing Base Camp, a point of Everest Expedition and then finally hike back to Gorak Shep.

Day 09: Gorak Shep to Kala Pathar (5550m) to Pheriche (4371m) 5-6 hours

The trial goes towards the Kala Pathar, a viewpoint that offers the splendid 360 degree panoramic view of the one and only Mt. Everest. Kala Pathar also offers spectacular views of snow laden giants. Spend some time in awesome Kala Pathar and then descends towards Pheriche via Gorak Shep.

Day 10: Pheriche to Namche Bazaar (3440m) 6-7 hrs

Leaving behind the Pheriche, the trail today descends towards Namche Bazaar. As there’s no issue regarding Acute Mountain Sickness(AMS), it obviously takes less hour to reach Namche Bazaar. 

Day 11: Namche Bazaar to Lukla (2826m) 6-7 hrs

The trail today goes all downwards, but though the trekkers find it a bit challenging as the slopes tend to have an effect on the knees, so it’s recommended to use trekking poles. Upon continuous walk of 6-7 hours there finally arrives the Lukla. 

Day 12: Lukla to Kathmandu (40 min flight)

Take the scenic flight 40 minutes flight towards Kathmandu from Lukla.
